class requires pre-work, deadline for registration is August 1, 2009.
Virtue on Display was designed in the style of 1770-1790 New England Samplers
for the areas of Essex County, Massachusetts, and Newport, Rhode Island, and is
a mix of counted thread and surface embroidery. Elizabeth will share
information on school girl samplers of the time and location that this sampler
was based on. Additional short lectures will touch on the life and times
of the students and teachers in this interesting era of American Samplers.
Design size is 7 3/4" x 6 3/4" on 34 count linen. Stitches
include cross stitch over one and two, Tent Stitch over one, Palastrina Knot,
Stem Stitch (both counted and surface), Chain Stitch, Detached Fly Stitch,
Hedebo Stitch, Couching, Double Backstitch, Alycia Lace over one, and Scotch
Checker.
Pre-work is Counted Cross Stitch and basting.
Student to bring light and magnification, if needed, and usual stitching
supplies.
